Citizens have at least two powers they frequently neglect to employ: the ballot and the recall. The most effective way to communicate with elected officials at any level begins at the ballot box. They’ve shown the extraordinary measures they will leverage to retain power once they have it, and to silence those who stand in their way. Watch them with eagle eyes, just as they watch you. Vote and recall accordingly.
Over the years, being a voice for the voiceless has come at a cost. I've been accused, used, abused, shamed, defamed, and degraded. But it's worth it. I'm by no means a saint. Still, I will walk through hell and back in defense of my convictions and especially for "the least of these."
What used to be red flags are now celebrated signals. In the 1970s, it was Jonestown. In the 1990s, it was Waco. Today, it is commonplace. We’ve normalized dysfunction and far too much of American Christianity has assumed the role of conductor on the crazy train.
